JavaBin Oslo welcomes Li Haoyi to Rebel on Wednesday, August 13, for an evening exploring Mill, an experimental new build tool for Java. The meetup is hosted in cooperation with ScalaBin.
While Java is known for its performance, ease of use, and excellent IDE support, build tools like Maven and Gradle often fall short of that reputation. In this talk, Li Haoyi will examine why build tooling is such a complex domain and how object-oriented programming concepts can simplify the developer experience. The session will conclude with a demonstration of Mill, showing how Java build tooling can be made faster, safer, and easier to use.
Li Haoyi, an MIT graduate, has built infrastructure for high-growth companies such as Dropbox and Databricks, and is the author of Hands-on Scala Programming. As an open source contributor, his projects have garnered over 10,000 stars on GitHub. With extensive experience in the JVM ecosystem, he has developed everything from cloud infrastructure and distributed backend systems to programming languages and high-performance web applications.
